Meet the People Behind the "In Tune for Education: The Macaroons for a Cause" Project

Red Ribbon, Franklin Baker Company, and Apl.De.Ap Foundation joined hands in bringing the educational project dubbed as the "In Tune for Education: The Macaroons for a Cause" which aims to bridge the gap and help the education system in the Philippines.

On July 4, 2013, the group launched the project in Teatrino Music Hall, Greenhills, San Juan delegated by the press people and selected bloggers. 

Here are the people behind this great project which also shared inspiring message as speakers during the event:

 Zinnia Rivera
General Manager, Red Ribbon Bakeshop



Through the leadership of Zinnia Rivera, General Manager of Red Ribbon, the country’s most cherished and fastest-growing bakeshop aims to become the market leader in the bakeshop industry. Seasoned with many years of business, research, product development and marketing experience from local and international leadership positions she previously held at Johnson & Johnson and Procter & Gamble, Ms. Rivera was selected to lead the transition of Red Ribbon.

She offers a diverse skill-set to her role as General Manager with extensive experience in innovation, process excellent, customer focus, employee engagement and talent development.



Sharon Chandran
Chairman, Franklin Baker Company of the Philippines


Ms. Sharon Chandran began her career by working for the family business her father started.  She joined the ChemOil Energy group after studying at the University of California at Berkeley, USA.  She held various managerial positions throughout the company in Treasury, Marketing, Operations, Shipping, Oil Trading, and finally as a Director when the company went public in Singapore.  

After 11 years with the group, she sold her family’s stake and became the founder and CEO of Footprints Investments in Singapore, which manages her family’s holdings.  She also is currently the Chairman of the following companies: the Franklin Baker group in the Philippines and the USA, Andorra Investments in Hong Kong, First Commonwealth Hotel here in the Philippines, and also trustee of the Robert V. Chandran Entrepreneurship Foundation.  

Ms. Chandran speaks at various international conferences and universities on philanthropy, entrepreneurship, family business and business management.



apl.de.ap / Allan Pineda Lindo
Founder, Apl.de.Ap Foundation



Allan Pineda, more popularly known as Apl.de.Ap of the world-famous, Grammy Award-winning pop group The Black Eyed Peas, is a Filipino-American rapper, record producer, and drummer.

He was born in Angeles City, Pampanga, to a Filipino mother and an African-American father.  As a child, apl.de.ap took daily hour-long jeepney rides to and from school, and at the same time he helped his family subsist by doing farm work.

apl.de.ap moved to the United States at age 14 to start a new life, but he never forgot about the Philippines. After making it big with The Black Eyed Peas, he founded the Apl.de.Ap Foundation, a charitable organization committed to improving the quality of life of children in the Philippines through education, technology, and of course, music.
